By itself, a fasting insulin test **cannot** be used to officially diagnose diabetes.
To diagnose diabetes, doctors look exclusively at your **blood sugar (glucose)** levels, not your insulin levels. However, a fasting insulin test is incredibly valuable for a different reason: it acts like an early warning system, catching metabolic issues years before they turn into full-blown Type 2 diabetes.
