Do insurance companies Pay for GLP-1 drugs

It depends on which GLP-1 medication, why it’s being prescribed, and your insurance plan.

In general:

• For type 2 diabetes: Many insurance plans cover GLP-1 medications when they’re approved for diabetes treatment, such as Ozempic, Trulicity, or Mounjaro (coverage varies).
• For weight loss: Coverage is much more variable. Some plans cover weight-management versions such as Wegovy or Zepbound, but many employer plans exclude weight-loss drugs.
• Medicare: Generally does not cover GLP-1 drugs solely for obesity/weight loss (rules can change), but may cover certain GLP-1 drugs for approved conditions like diabetes.

Even when covered, you may have:

This does not generally apply to VA but should make you wonder if you ARE NOT diabetic.
